An extra special start to 2013 for one local mother who gave birth to a baby boy 30 seconds after midnight.
It was the first baby of the new year in Bakersfield.
Deontray Eric Blakley, Junior is a healthy, six pound, ten ounce baby resting with his mother at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital.
His mother, Lashonay Jones tells us they new it was going to be close when Deontray missed his due date.
She was expecting the birth of her son before midnight, but couldn't be happier to bring in the first baby of 2013 in Bakersfield.
"My due date was on the 30th, and my water broke on the 31st and I came in at 5:55. I was happy, we was excited." said mother, Lashonay Jones.
Kern Medical Center welcomed its first baby of 2013 at 12:27 am.
At San Joaquin Community Hospital, they had babies born before midnight and also another one late Tuesday morning, but no midnight deliveries.
