BAKERSFIELD, CA - The Bakersfield planning commission approved a street name change in honor of a beloved local pastor and community activist. Reverend Tyree Toliver died in 2008 at age 85.

Toliver was the pastor for nearly 50 years at Saint John's Missionary Baptist Church on East Brundage Lane. He also played a key role in the local civil rights movement.

Hayes Street will now be called Tyree Toliver street from Virginia Avenue to East Brundage Lane.
