A Bakersfield man was charged in court Monday with practicing medicine without a license in his home.
Newly released police reports detail what led to the arrest of 58-year-old Alberto Gonzalez and what officers found inside his home.
Officers say they found vials of blood, prescription medicine, and fake certificates on a bedroom wall. But, the one thing they say they didn't find was a license to practice medicine.
Reports show officers were tipped off by a patient who thought she had been duped by Gonzalez. Police say he pretended to be a doctor and treated people inside his home.
Almost a month ago, the woman met police near Gonzalez's home on Monitor Street in south Bakersfield. She thought she was diabetic and wanted to be seen by a doctor. According to reports, Gonzalez injected her with four syringes for $400. The woman told police she thought it was water.
Officers went to Gonzalez's home. Inside a bedroom, they found used syringes and vials of prescription medication, several that were marked "testosterone", according to the reports.
Officers say Gonzalez showed them several certificates hanging on the wall, but none were to practice medicine. Gonzalez told them he was a doctor of natural remedies in Mexico for 15 to 20 years, but police say he couldn't provide any proof.
In the reports, officers say Gonzalez told them he got most of the medication from salesmen and he met someone at Mercado Latino to get Ampicillin, an antibiotic.
The reports show Gonzalez admitted operating a medical clinic out of his home every Sunday for the past three months.
One patient told police Gonzalez was treating her for constipation with castor oil.
Officers say Gonzalez drew blood from clients with high blood pressure, later diluted it with water, then dumped it in his backyard.
According to the reports, Gonzalez also told officers he was arrested once in Los Angeles for "issues involving a clinic." He didn't elaborate.
