Bakersfield Police officers detained several people for questioning and took one suspect into custody early Wednesday after a crime spree in east Bakersfield left two men dead and another wounded by gunfire.

The spree took place within a mile radius and included three separate shootings and two armed robberies.

The first call came in around 1 a.m. Wednesday with reports of a person shot near Lake and Bernard Streets. Arriving officers discovered an empty SUV crashed into a light standard. A man returned to the scene moments later with a gunshot wound to his hand described by the BPD as minor to moderate.

Moments later, officers received a report of a second man shot about three blocks away at Lake and Inyo Streets. That man was pronounced dead at the scene, BPD Sgt. Martin Heredia said. He has been identified as Raul Alonso Morales, 36, of Bakersfield.

A few minutes later, police received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery at the AM/PM convenience store at Union Avenue and 34th Street.

Moments later police received a report of a second armed robbery, this one at a gas station in the 700 block of Bernard Street.

Fifteen minutes later, police were called to the 1400 block of Williams Street where a third man had been shot. That man later died from his wounds at Kern Medical Center, police reported. He has not yet been identified.

Officers converged on an apartment complex in the 1000 block of McNew Court a short time later after officers spotted a car that matched the description provided by witnesses to the crime spree.

Officers were still working to clear the apartment complex at 7 a.m. The SWAT team was called in to assist.

Raul Morales was the father of 2 great kids,my niece and nephew lost their dad this morning and a mother lost her son. Words can not explain how much damage these young men have done to so many souls. He was a beautiful person who was taken way too soon. I extend my thoughts and prayers to the families. Of all the victims involved in this sickening tragedy my heart also goes out to the families of the suspects because they will also have to lose someone they loved. There is no way to undo what is done but I pray that they have remorse because life is a gift given to us all and no earthly man has the right to take life away. It must not have been to difficult to pull the trigger knowing that they repeated doing so but they have no idea of how hard it was to have to sit down and tell his kids of the news and to see them fall apart and have no way of knowing how to explain why. Why? Its a question all victims. And there families deserve to know. I hope that anyone who knows any info. About this come forward and help police in their investigation.

Sadly, another night in Kern County, and specifically Bakersfield, the cesspool of the County. Let's just keep letting the gangs rule the streets, the 'non' violent criminals and the illegals have more and more, and things will not improve. Just when can law abiding residents go outside and feel safe? Is there any time of day at this point?

What is going on with these young gang's punks they make Bakersfield look bad and unsafe. I live outside of Bakersfield and for this reason I want no part of the City of Bakerfield.

Sure looks like somebody had a bad day and went off the deep end...or got some bad dope, or really good dope...that's why I think pot should be legal, nobody smokes a joint and then does this, on the contrary. More like PCP, ecstasy , or maybe the dude was stone cold sober. Or more that one guy looks like
