A Bakersfield Police Officer is on administrative leave after police say he was involved in an off-duty DUI accident early Tuesday morning.

"An off-duty officer identitfied as Officer Thomas Villasenor, he's been with the department a little over a year, was one of the parties involved in the accident. When they contacted him officers noticed he had symptoms of someone who consumed alcholic beverages," said Bakersfield Police Department Lt. Mitch Willoughby.

Officer Thomas Villasenor was arrested and taken to the Kern County Jail were he's being charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

He has been placed of administrative leave pending further investigation.

When ordinary people get DUI's they lose their jobs, if they are teachers, can't get licensed to be locksmiths, and if they lose their driver license, they lose their job, their income, and are put in a limbo of: no money, can't pay fines, can't pay for STEPS, can't get help. Now if this officer was driving a city car is it impounded? But I'll bet he still keeps his car.
