Mayor Harvey Hall will present a proclamation to Bakersfield police officer Dennis Eddy during Wednesday's city council meeting.
The mayor is set to proclaim Wednesday "Dennis Eddy Day."  Officer Eddy was injured in a shootout with a gang member earlier this year.
The Bakersfield Police Department cleared Eddy and all officers in the shooting.

Are you kidding me? Why are people so stupid? There is nothing more important than awarding a police officer for doing his job. As for you trying to say how can he feel this way, how can you comment on a man that almost lost his life in the line of duty for protecting the streets of Bakersfield. Here we are complaining we need more officers and we need our streets safer, but when a police officer shots a thug all HElL breaks loose. So make up your minds, either you want the thugs off the streets or you don't! God bless our BPD

As an upstanding member of the community, I have to politely disagree with the last comment. Go back to the facts. Leon's life was lost due to his own actions. He made his own decisions that night, and those decisions cost him his life. Officer Eddy nearly lost his life by merely doing his job, part of which is protecting people like you. I would hope you remember the real meaning behind this season. God Bless you and your family... Officer Eddy, 10-8!!! Merry Christmas!!

Are you kidding Me, there is more important things that the tax payers dollars can used for at this time in our city, and how do you reward someone for taking someone elses life no matter what the consequences were at the time, and how can he feel good about himself accepting something like this.
