Classes at Bakersfield College resume next week as well but according to college officials, there won't be as many students this year as in the past.

The Bakersfield Californian reports fewer students are enrolling and state budget cuts are the reason. There are fewer courses available making it harder for students to get in.

The paper reports about 16,400 students were enrolled at BC as of last week, about 10 percent less than last fall.

Governor Jerry Brown has warned that 300 million dollars will be cut from community colleges if voters don't pass his tax initiative in November.

Brown's free college/university education may not pan out. With Obama's amnesty to the young illegals they won't be illegal any longer and shouldn't qualify for the free tuition.

junk yard dog agree on all but the waterway, something has to be done about the water supply in this valley before it dry up and blows away. There is pleanty of water wasted that is just channel out into the ocean that should be channeled through the valley to keep it alive! As for the high speed rail if they were going to build any part of it they need to install in right through the grapevine to LA, that sure would help the valley out in more ways than one! Now for the illegals Brown is like Obama he needs their illegal vote to stay in office!

Brown makes a threat about education spending why doesn't Brown shelve the high speed rail to nowhere and the waterway and dump a whole lot of administrators? And after that Brown can turn over the keys of to the Illegals

Good. I hope those non-students realize that an education is a guarantee of nothing. It's smoke and mirrors. Don't borrow money to go to school.

Murph, I was thinking the same thing. The Dream Act 1 and 2 is allowing more illegals to attend so actual citizens are being forced out. It still won't get me to change my vote from NO on any new or extended taxes and fees. If he and his Democratic Legislature want to change their ways maybe the money would be there. Unfortunately, they'd rather not change so my mind is not going to either.

That's okay he is adding more than that back into the system for the illegals free higher education!
