The Bakersfield City Council voted unanimously Wednesday evening, to approve a contract agreement between the city and the police officers union.

Last month, the city announced there was a deal with the union after the union went six years without a pay raise.

The agreement gives police officers pay hikes of six-percent retroactively and going forward.

That amounts to about $2 million in increased costs to the general fund this year.

However, this is a short-term contract and will run through June 30th.

City officials don't expect future discussions to go as long.

"The length of the previous negotiations, going for as long as they did, was not a normal situation. We expect future negotiations in a quicker fashion," said Steven Teglia, Assistant to the City Manager.

I can only base my opinion on them not doing their jobs. If by silly complaints you mean throwing rocks at moving vehicles, shots fired, fights with firearms involved, stolen property, etc, etc then yes. Guess they are only silly complaints unless it is you that it is happening to, that is why I will not call the putz dept for anything anymore.... unless of course I have a donut sale, then they will be the first that are called. I do have to say one more thing about BPD, can we get officer Berchtold to patrol our area? At least he does do his job..... and his aim is good too.

jmabbott888, my guess is you think the BPD is mostly bad because you have not been satisfied with the way they have responded to your silly complaints.

DR999, don't have to teach them about BPD, they see it with their own eyes. As for other police agancies such as CHP & KCSO we have no problem with them, the officers in those agencies do their jobs correctly for the most part. THere are good & bad in all agencies, just seems the BPD has mostly bad, at least in the southwest. I teach my kids to obey the law, ticks em off at times but that is the way it is, at the same time I also teach them if you don't do your job (when you get one) don't be surprised if you get fired, unfortunately I don't have an answer for them when they ask why the bpd officers keep their jobs when they don't do it.

I hope they drive like hell to save me. They have deserved this raise for a long time. It's not even enough. These men and women put their lives on the line everyday. We all owe them a big thank you for putting up with not being paid enough for as long as they did.

jmabbott888, are you teaching your children to despise the police as much as you do? If so, you aren't a very good father.

Concerned, in those situations the BPD would run code 3....... after stopping for coffee & donuts.

Voter1 if you were dying or your home was being broke into or your kid was being raped or you were in a serious accident. Do you really give a crap how they drive there to save your ass? Or should they just drive the speed limit make sure to use turn indicators?

Now the Bpd can go speeding more in their cars and not using turning indicators and sitting in the parks .
