According to the Bakersfield Californian, Kern County's Auditor Controller Ann Barnett plans to retire.

The paper reports Barnett plans to retire at the end of the year but has yet to make the decision official with a formal letter to the Board of Supervisors.

Barnett drew controversy for her refusal to issue civil marriage licenses when a court ruling allowed same sex couples to wed in 2008. She also stepped up audits in recent years, tightening the finances of county departments.

I hope Ann Barnett has a long and happy retirement. She earned it.

Smart idea! Give your brittle bones a rest. More time to ‘Be Yourself”. Get a radio show perhaps. Spend more time with the dogs. Maybe more like her in civil service will follow her footsteps. The possibilities are limitless rather than remaining a (bleep).
