Two Bakersfield families displaced by fire last week are getting help from some local high school students.
We first told you about Vanessa Anaya and her four kids Sunday. A house fire on Niles Street last Thursday left Anaya and her kids, as well as her sister-in-law and her four kids, homeless. While they've found a place to stay temporarily, they need clothes, food and money to get back on their feet.
Some Junior ROTC students from Arvin High School saw our coverage. Now, they're collecting things to give to the family.
"I seen it and I thought what if it was my family going through that? If it was my family I would like someone to help me out with this," said Sgt. Edgar Garcia of JROTC at Arvin High School.
Garcia said he and two other boys came up with the idea, but all the members of the Junior ROTC program are going to help gather donations.
If you would like to donate, contact Arvin High School next week.
