Interstate 5 over the Grapevine and Highway 58 over the Tehachapi pass both were re-opened Tuesday morning, but CHP officers are escorting traffic and delays can be expected.

Highway 58 was re-opened before 8 a.m. Interstate 5 was re-opened at about 9 a.m.

Skies were clear throughout Southern Kern County, and the storm that hit Monday seemed to have passed, according to Channel 17 reporters in Tehachapi and at the Grapevine.

A new storm is expected on Thursday, but snow levels will be higher than they were in Monday's storm, said KGET Weather Forecaster Kevin Charette.

Authorities opened Mojave High School as an emergency shelter and warming center.

Officials with area schools decided late last night that conditions still were too dangerous for students to get to school Tuesday.

The Kern Valley High, Kernville and South Fork school districts declared 2-hour snow and/or ice delays for Tuesday morning. The Tehachapi, El Tejon and Caliente school districts declared a snow and/or ice closure.
