4 p.m.. UPDATE: Firefighters make progress on Kern wildfires

Some evacuations continued in the hills near Tehachapi and firefighters were worried about lightning storms Monday afternoon but, overall, it looked like crews were winning the war against fire in Kern County.

My thanks to Sunny and IWant..., but I am already on the reverse call system and I know it works because when the Canyon fire evacuations were ordered last weekend, even though I am not in that area of Tehachapi I did receive the call mapping out the areas affected. I've also received the calls for other emergency notifictions. It's a terrific system.

You have to sign up for the reverse 911. You can do it at www.kerncountyfire.org

I'm in Bear Valley Springs and I didn't get the reverse call telling me that there was a precautionairy evacuation notification in place.
