Officer Memorial Week ceremonies scheduled for Thursday

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - This week is National Police Week and the Kern County community is invited to an annual salute to our fallen law enforcement.

A county-wide Peace Officer Memorial is set to take place Thursday, hosted by all local law enforcement agencies. Officers, deputies and responders will gather to remember those who have died protecting our community. The proceeding will include an honor guard, a 21-gun salute and a flyover, according to California Highway Patrol.

The event will be held at noon at the Peace Officer Memorial in front of the Kern County courthouse located at 1415 Truxtun Ave. in Downtown Bakersfield.

Earlier that day, Bakersfield Police Department will hold a separate event for National Police Week. That event is happening at 7 a.m. at 1601 Truxtun Ave.

As a result of these ceremonies, Truxtun Avenue will be closed between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. between H and Eye Streets, police said. Eastbound Truxtun Avenue will also be reduced to one lane between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. between Chester Avenue and L Street.

The Kern County Sheriff's Office will also hold a separate ceremony Thursday at 10 a.m. at KCSO headquarters at 1350 Norris Road.
