BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - You have until today to file your taxes for 2017.
The United Way of Kern County is opening its doors to tax procrastinators. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) is a free tax preparation campaign that is part of a community-wide effort to alleviate poverty for 50,000 people by 2020.
Through April 19, VITA will help thousands of low-to-moderate income families and individuals prepare their taxes and connect them to other financial services.
If you earned less than $60,000 last year, you may qualify for the earned income tax credit and you can have your taxes prepared for free from the Kern VITA partnership. Eligible individuals or families may receive a tax refund up to $6,143.
