Highway 46 has reopened after being closed nearly eight hours because of a fatal accident.
The accident happened at about 6 a.m., about nine miles east of the Kern-San Luis Obispo County line.
California Highway Patrol officers said a Honda collided head-on with a big rig. Someone in the Honda was ejected and died at the scene, the CHP said. There were no other injuries.
No names were immediately released.
The truck caught fire after the crash. It was carrying lettuce and strawberries, and it took hours to clean up the mess.
Traffic was detoured to Highway 33 and Highway 41 while Highway 46 was closed.
