"I heard like gunshots..like 5, 6 gunshots," said neighbor Francisco Flores.

Family members paced anxiously outside Kern Medical Center last night awaiting good news that never came.

Ka-mya Robinson, 2, died a short time-later after being gunned down just after 7 p.m. Monday while playing in front of a friend's house in the 400 block of South Robinson Street near Virginia Avenue.

"I came running over here and I just got scared," said Flores.

Officers say that stray bullet was intended for a different target.

"A group of Hispanic males got into an argument with another group of Hispanic males, the argument escalated into gunfire," said Lt. Joe Mullins with the Bakersfield Police Department.

Officers say there were four men in an SUV and one of the men opened fire, aiming for two men on the sidewalk.
Police describe the SUV as a dark blue, Lincoln Navigator or similar type SUV.

"We're also looking for those individuals we believe they may be victims in this circumstance and we need to know what kind of information they can provide," said Lt. Mullins.

The Bakersfield Police Department brought in extra officers to go door to door along the path the possible victims fled.

Police also searched a vehicle that initially matched the description of the one seen leaving the area, but came up empty handed.

"This is absolutely the worst possible scenario, and this is the kind of thing we hate to see and we will expend all legal means to make sure these individuals are brought in," said Lt. Mullins.

If you have any information, you are urged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at 327-7111 or Detective James Moore at 326-3540

The Secret Witness Program is also offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and filing of a criminal complaint against the person involved in the crime.  You can remain anonymous by calling the Secret Witness Hotline at 322-4040.

I'm willing to bet when this all comes out the guys being shot at or the shooters or both parties will have previous felony records that have the magical "dismissed for the furtherment of justice" garbage on their charges & more than likely should have been locked up when this murder happened. So much for justice in Kern county.

ALL these so-called "gangsters" are WEAK sauce! What ever happened to knocking each other around with fists to see who's really the boss then everything was squashed? These pu**y gangsters could never stand on their own two feet! They hide behind guns! This is such a sad, senseless act, and this shall only cause more bloodshed now! The idiots being shot at know who the idiots are that shot at them, and now the word is out that they did a drive-by and killed a baby! If the police don't get the culprits first, the bounty on those guys' heads will be dealt with street style. I say round 'em all up and dig a mass grave!

Wow Bakersfield has hit a new low. What happened to this city? I'll tell you, all these freakin cholos coming up from LA are ruining our city! Is it any wonder that crime in LA has been dropping steadily over the past 5-10 years or so while crime here has been on the rise? I hope they're caught and get what they deserve, which is DEATH, although that probably won't happen. Life maybe, but not death, it's "cruel and unusual." (rolleyes) How sad that we aren't even safe in our own front yards anymore.....

There are no stray bullets. As a community we all know what must be done. How many more toddlers? Why won't our legislators act?

This is a horrific story. Now, THIS is the kind of senseless, stupid act that should get the community to stand up and say 'This is not right!'
