Are you looking forward to receiving your tax refund? You may have to wait a little longer this year.

That's because the tax filing season won't begin until January 30th.

The IRS says it's because of changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act. Because of that, the 2013 filing season is delayed.

But, local tax preparers says that doesn't mean you still can't get a jump start.

"If they already have their W-2's we will go ahead and file. We can prepare everything and get it ready, so when they start accepting we will go ahead and file," said Dinah Rifenburgh, local tax preparer.

Individual income tax returns should be accepted on January 30th.

I filed my state taxes on the FTB website when I got my W-2 last Saturday, the 19th, and it was direct deposited into my account this morning.

Why is it that if we were to pay our taxes past April 15, we would be penalized but the government can get away with this? They know when tax season is! Its the same every year!
