A suspected drunk driver knocked out power to about 200 homes and businesses in south Bakersfield Friday after he crashed into a power pole.

A man was speeding on Hughes Lane, just south of Brundage Lane when he lost control of his vehicle and hit the pole, the CHP reported.

The driver's has not been released.

Highway patrol officers gave the driver a field sobriety test and say he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The driver was later arrested.

"It was obvious he was intoxicated," said CHP Officer Jake Johnson. "He admitted to consuming a large amount of beers before getting in the car."

A PG&E spokeswoman estimated power would be restored by 9 a.m.

The man's brother and his brother's girlfriend were in the car at the time of the crash, officers said.

No one was seriously injured in the crash.
