Each year thousands of women and even some men are helped by the Alliance Against Family Violence and Sexual Assault. But the organization needs help to continue its good work.
That's why we cooked up a fundraiser outside the 17 studios Wednesday.
Volunteers started setting up before the sun came up, eager to fire up the grill and help those in need.
By lunchtime, there was a long line of people waiting to sink their teeth into a juicy burger and help the Alliance at the same time.
"I think it's really good to give back to the community and to support the best that we can," said Jill Bigby who stopped by on her lunch break. "I think they're doing a really great job helping families in need."
Helen Smith also came for the food and the cause.
"I support the Alliance," Smith said. "Anything I can do for them and I know it's going to be a good hamburger."
"We work with people with developmental disabilities and they help out a lot," said Adam Gomez. "So I decided to come help out too and get a burger."
There was also a drive-thru so folks didn't have to get out of their cars.
For a $5 donation, people were served a juicy hamburger, chips and a drink.
More than $7,000 was raised.
