A six-time DUI offender who served less than three months of a six-year sentence is back in jail.
Isreal Iglesias was arrested Sunday morning for violating his parole. Iglesias spoke to 17 News last May.
"Since my 18th birthday, I've been in and out of prison every single year," said Iglesias.
Back then, Iglesias admitted to 17 News he's been arrested every year of his adult life, and this year is no different. Chief Deputy Francis Moore says Iglesias was arrested again Sunday.
"He was a passenger of a vehicle and he was not at home. And, when the deputies made contact, they were able to determine he was in possession on all of these items," said Moore.
County records show deputies found Iglesias with a gun, methamphetamine, and he was under the influence of drugs. Iglesias was arrested and faces 13 charges total, nine of them felonies.
"These charges will make him prison eligible, but how they get filed, how they get plea bargained is anyone's guess," said Moore.
Iglesias was released from county jail in March 2012. He was found guilty of six DUIs and sentenced to six years, but he only served 81 days. He was released as part of Assembly Bill 109, the state prison realignment plan. As a non-violent, non-serious, non-sexual offender, he was to check in with a parole agent and take substance abuse classes.
Chief Deputy Moore says Iglesias was re-arrested in May 2012 after our interview, for violating parole conditions. He was put through a series of treatment programs in-custody for seven months. Iglesias was released in December with an ankle monitor, until Sunday's arrest.
"If someone has a crystal ball that will tell us who to do and who not to do, I'm open to look at it. But, in the meantime, we are going to continue to develop our program. We're going to adjust them and modify them," said Moore.
Chief Deputy Moore believes if Iglesias is found guilty of the pending charges, he's looking at a substantial state prison sentence. The District Attorney's office hadn't received the filing as of Monday afternoon. Iglesias is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
