This is a news release from the Kern County Sheriff's Office:

The Kern County Sheriff's Office received a report of a shooting in the 100 block of 11th Street, in McFarland on Tuesday night.

When deputies from the McFarland and Delano Substations arrived, they discovered a fourteen year old male had been shot.

The victim and another male teenager, age sixteen, were walking on 11th Street when the shooting occurred. A white Chevy truck occupied by two unknown males drove past the teenagers.

As the vehicle past, one of the occupants fired several shots from a handgun at them. The suspects fled and the fourteen year old suffered a gun shot wound to his leg.

The teenager was hospitalized over night for treatment and his injuries are not life threatening.

It is unknown if the shooting is gang related.

Every week there are mistakes on this website. Take a few extra minutes to have someone else read the item before posting. What was that about cities with smarts?
