Save Mart supermarkets and its union workers are struggling to agree on a new contract and the standoff could lead to a strike.

The Sacramento Bee reports the supermarket chain has given its employees its last, best, and final contract offer. The United Food and Commercial Workers say the offer is not acceptable but have offered to meet with company officials next week.

Save Mart and Safeway are pressing for concessions on health care and other issues to lower labor costs.

Various state and federal laws dictate minimum wage and working conditions. While maybe unions were once instrumental in this, they are now nothing more than legalized extorionist. Must be nice to belong to a Union. That way, you know how slow you can work without getting fired.

If they go on strike the stores could hire back all of the employees they are planning on laying off as non-union workers and just never come to terms with the unions, problems solved!

Think Guy Chaddock. That guy is a personal hero of mine. Foe those of you unfamiliar with the story..when Guy Chaddock Furniture manufacturing company got infiltrated by union thugs stirring them up, these people were quite happy with their jobs, and along comes Jimmy Hoffa (that's a joke, OK?) and tells them how much more money they can get, etc. by going union, they voted to unionize, Guy C. closed up shop and retired and dozens of people were then jobless. Good work there Local 666.

That would be something new a union worker holding a union shame on sign for hiring non-union workers since the union hires non-union workers to hold them up now for them!

Wonder how long it will be before we see the union workers holding the "shame on (insert name here") signs lol. Just think of all those people that would love to take the job & be non-union to boot. Fire the union workers & get some people in there that actually want to work.
