Retired teacher feels he's paying the price for his former district's mistake

His story does not hold water with me. I retired this past June (with only 15 years service) and the paperwork from the state clearly states it is the teacher's responsibility to make sure your base salary rate is turned in to the state. This is a non-story KGET. This guy has scammed you. By the way, this guy must be getting close to 100% of his pay in retirement that he was getting while he was teaching after 42 years!

This type of ignorant teacher is why our kids have difficulty learning anything. I bet he'll get his Union Thug rep involved.

If my math is correct I have no sympathy for Mr Saunders. His monthly check will be reduced $1200, $900 which he isn't entitled to and 5% to repay his overpayments which is $300. That means Mr Saunders is receiving $6000 a month. Sorry, with the vast number of retiree's receiving less than $1000 a month I can have no sympathy for him.

Whoever is to blame for the error, the retiree bears the consequence either way. You let them off the hook by signing a clearance. And they will not let up until every penny is returned, and with late penalties. And there are still the IRS audits you will have to face in the future. I am showing this to my 24 year old who is dead-set on teaching. I tell her to get a REAL Job. If something like this were to happen in the REAL world, government agencies would be right on it. But since it happened to one of their own . . . . well, they stick together like a herd of steers. The right hoof washes the other three!

Are you serious? Any intelligent person who works and gets a retirement from CalPERS or CalSTRS knows that their retirement pay is based on their base salary, NOT overtime or extra duty pay. Looks like someone is trying to scam the system.
