A suspected DUI driver snapped a power pole and tore through trees in southwest Bakersfield.
Police say the driver reached speeds up to 100 miles per hour on Easton Street behind the old Mervyn's store. The driver snapped a power pole, tore through power lines and hit several trees before the van came to a stop.
"Witnesses put the vehicle going southbound on Easton at an extremely high rate of speed," said Sgt. Steve London with the Bakersfield Police. "It appears to investigation that he stuck several objects including power lines the vehicle then rolled over."
Police say the driver was able to crawl out of the car and suffered some injuries. They say he refused to cooperate but later was taken to the hospital.
