Pedestrian killed in southwest Bakersfield

UPDATE: We have new information in the case where a man was hit by a car in southwest Bakersfield.

Police say 68-year-old Miguel Buenos was walking across Stine Road, near Harris Road last night when he was hit. Officers say he was not in a crosswalk. Buenos was taken to Kern Medical Center where he died about an hour later.

Police determined the driver, identified as Jose Jimenez, was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was released at the scene.

Officers closed Stine Road for several hours while they investigated. Buenos is the 22nd person to die in a pedestrian fatality on Kern County streets this year.

A Bakersfield man has died after he was hit by a car in southwest Bakersfield.

It happened just after 7 p.m Wednesday in the 5400 block of Stine Road near Harris Road.
 
Police say the victim, 68-year-old Miguel Buenos, was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.

Buenos was taken to Kern Medical Center where he died about an hour later.

ole la, pisas. Look! Use the crosswalk and you won't end up at KMC and other trauma centers. Very dumb, crossing at night out of the crosswalk.

Que esto sirva de lección al mundo. En la noche, no es seguro cruzar la calle en un paseo peatonal sin marcar. Si usted está de piel oscura, se hace más difícil de verte. Raza, por favor! Obedezca las leyes, use ropa de color claro en la noche, y camine en caminatas marcadas. Este es lo que me preocupa cuando manejo de noche. Que un tontito cruce delante de mí vehículo. Puedo yo conducir por la noche poco mas seguro.

I was actually there when it happened. I was driving on the opposite side of the street. All I could see was a truck slam on its brakes since it was so dark. It wasn't until after that I saw a man was hit. If this man had used the crosswalk, he would still be alive. Very sad. :-(

What in the world is happening? If we aren't killing one another with guns and knives we are killing with our vehicles. Are people so stupid that they can't cross a street safely? Is it even safe to go outside? Good ole Bakersfield!
