A longtime principal in Arvin is on her way out and parents there aren't happy about the change.

Arvin High School Principal Blanca Cavazos was recently promoted to an administrative position in the Kern High School District headquarters.

Now parents are concerned about who will replace her.

Monday, they met with Superintendent Don Carter to ask their opinions to be taken into consideration.

"I'm always pleased when parents take an interest in the education of their children," Carter said.

"I'm a firm believer that the most powerful teacher in a child's life is their parents. I'm  more than happy to listen to their ideas," added Carter.

Carter says he will give his recommendation for Cavazos' replacement to the board of trustees next Wednesday.

Parents want to know their options. You have two choices: 1) Continue to back NCLB and all the educators will be gone (leaving what for your children?); or 2) take a stand now and overthrow NCLB -- Arvin could choose to stand up and be a national leader here. The choice is clear: throw out the dedicated lifelong professional educators who have dedicated and sacrificed their lives to teach your children -- or -- take your schools back -- say, "enough is enough!" Get federal government out of your local schools! Now!
