Children whose parents are on deployment often have a hard time being separated from their mom or dad. That's why Operation: Military Kids is forming a support network here in Kern County so kids from military families can meet.

Organizers say Kern County has more than three thousand military kids, some of which may be struggling with issues associated with having a deployed parent.

"Our goal was to be a facilitator to bring military families together to meet other families, so these kids know they they are not alone, there are other kids out there like them," said Veronica Slaton with Operation: Military Kids.

Sunday, kids and their families met up for a day of fun.  Operation: Military Kids gave each child a doll with a picture of their parents inside - a keepsake for comfort while their parents are on deployment.
