A woman is dead this morning and a man in serious condition after an early morning shooting in a central Bakersfield neighborhood. Detectives are still trying to unravel exactly what happened, but say the shooting may be gang-related.
The shooting happened in the 200 block on Donna Avenue just after midnight, early Monday morning. The woman was taken to Mercy Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her identity has not yet been released.
The man was taken to the same hospital and is in serious condition after being shot in his back and upper leg.
Detectives told 17 News they are still working through the details and couldn't yet explain why the shooting took place, though they note it may be gang-related.
