Families in Bakersfield soon could have a new place to cool off during the triple-digit heat. A spray park at Siemon Park in northeast Bakersfield is scheduled to open this summer.

The park will replace a pool that was closed down in 2009 to save the city money. The pool was built in the 1960s and needed major repairs.

City staff will ask the city council this week to set aside 150 thousand dollars to purchase the spray park equipment. If approved, the spray park would open July first.

Its nice that they are giving the drug dealers a new place to hang out at. I would bet good money that this park is overrun with gangs and lord knows what else within 4 months of opening. And your right, the welfare families will be hoping their kids get hurt so that they can have a big payday

No more pools due the health hazards of pissing in them so now they build spray parks that they can slip and fall so they can sue the city and the welfare parents can hit the lotto!

Everyone keeps saying more pools for the kids in these areas, now who let their kids swim in these public toilets? I have a niece that work at them and they have to test the water ever so often, she found the ones on the east side were being used a public rest rooms daily! Rest of the city pools are getting that way!

The City of Bakersfield is pathetic. In god they trust to teach kids to swim at the spray park.

Siemon Park has a lot of large shade trees, which are perfect for hanging a pinata during a birthday party.
