The Kern County Sheriff's department released a composite sketch of a suspect wanted in connection to the attempted homicide.
He's described as a Hispanic man in his 20s with a muscular build and was seen wearing a light colored tank top the night of the shooting. Investigators say he's considered armed and extremely dangerous.
Sheriff's investigators say the officer was parked watching for speeders Sunday night near Lake Isabella when an SUV passed him. The driver turned around, headed back toward the officer, then a passenger in the back seat began shooting at the patrol car.
The officer was hit in the hand and chest, but is okay. His name has still not been released.
The Sheriff's department believes there were at least three men inside the vehicle.
It's described as a mid-2000s, dark blue SUV, possibly a GMC Yukon with 24-inch chrome rims and low profile tires.
