The mother of the two children found at the bottom of a swimming pool in south Bakersfield Wednesday, told 17 News why she left the children in her roommates' care. Candiace Tucker says she trusted her long-time friend Joshua Valenzuela and her new roommate Colt Powers to watch her two boys, but after news of her sons' death, Tucker says she wants to see the two men in jail.

"They're still alive, they're still breathing," Tucker said referring to Powers and Valenzuela. "My babies don't have a breath."

Four-year-old Marcus Nevaeh Tucker and one-year-old Micah Emmanuel Tucker were being watched by Tucker's two roommates at Valenzuela's foster parents' home on Dustin Road. Now, Tucker wants the two men to pay for what she calls "negligence."

"They need to go to jail. And my friend (joshua Valenzuela), I loved him to death but my two babies are gone," Tucker said.

Tucker says she knew Valenzuela for about ten years and had just started living with him and his friend Colt Powers three weeks ago. Valenzuela was sleeping inside and Powers said he was in the bathroom when the children got out of the house, according to police.

Tucker's sister Michele Criddle believes four-year-old Nevaeh was trying to save his little brother after he jumped in the pool.

"My nephew, I know he went out like a hero," Criddle said through tears. "He did if that's what he tried to do."

Police say 21-year-old Powers tried to save the two children.

"He pulled both of them out of the pool, called 9-1-1 and fire was giving them instructions on what to do and he was trying to resuscitate the children as police arrived.

However, it was too late. Both boys died at local hospitals. Valenzuela and Colt were interviewed by police after the incident. The case is now being sent to the District Attorney's Office for further investigation.

There is a fund set up at Kern Schools Federal credit union to help Candiace Tucker pay for her children's funeral. If you would like to help, checks must be made payable to "the Tucker funeral expense fund." Checks can be mailed to Kern Schools Federal Credit Union at P.O. Box 9506, Bakersfield, CA 93389. The account number is 2471890.

What has happened to the two babies it is a very unfotunate thing, i am sorry for that , but there is really no one else to blaim but the mother. she should have never left the kids with two men specially specially with sopme one that has just movedd in weeks ago. I am not saying that the men are not responsable, they are some what responsable for the deaths of the kids but not totaly responsible. I my self know one of the men and he is a very harmless person, but not responsible enough to take care of two young children. Parents should learn that no matter how long you have known someone, you really cant trust them with the lives of small children they are to fragile, to be left alone.

Okay, why did she leave them alone with two men in the first place? If she wants to blame somebody than she should blame herself for not making sure someone with experience watched her children and not her " Two roommate's" whom she just moved in with 3 weeks ago. She has the same if not even more fault then the two men watching them, she was there mother.

Any parent of small children that has a pool without a fence is an idiot.

A pool fence would have saved both lives!

Waiting to have kids and being married have a lot to do with this. She said in the paper she "needed a break" from the kids so she left them with the guys the night before. I'm sorry but when you bring a child into this world your days of living for yourself are over, your responsibility is now to your child. If you have kids when you are in your teens you couldn't be making a bigger mistake for yourself and your kids. It simply isn't fair for your kids. When you are that young you don't even know who you really are and you surely don't have the experience at life to bring another human into this world and care for it. How many pregnant teenagers do you know of that are self sufficient? Support themselves with a job? Pay their own rent? Insurance? Car payment? I'm sure it happens but it is incredibly rare. Most people who have kids in their teens simply turn grandma into mom so they can go and do all the partying and having fun that they haven't had the time to do yet. For christ's sake you can't even go into a bar and have a drink and you think the short life you lived so far is enough of a preparation to raise a child? If you think that you're stupid. And I feel every kid deserves a good mother and father figure growing up, not having that is also very unfair for the child. Condoms are given out in many places and sold nearly everywhere. Proper use of contraception is not rocket science, thousands do it properly every day. Wake up and be responsible for your own actions people.

The mom used the word "negligence" against those two people whom she left the kids with...but she is the one who left those kids by themselves, she is the mother she should be responsible for the kids death not those two other guys because first of she was the one who should of been there taking care of thos children who are now dead becuase of her stup** negligence..she should not be a mother at all a mother would not leave her children unattended

She wants those men in jail because she is hurting. She just lost her children in a tragic accident and is in pain. Those young men agreed to care for the little boys and to be responsible. Dont blame the mother, she didnt leave them alone. RVLADY-The owners of the home dont have small children and that is why there was not a fence around the pool. BTW, what does marriage and waiting to have children have to do with any of this? I had my first child when I was 17 and I always took very good care of my son and I still do. I do not advocate teen pregnancy, I made a mistake, but I made the best of a bad situation. Have a little sympathy.

I agree. Get married first. Then have the kids. Life is so much easier that way. I know things can happen.... but really. Not the cart before the horse people. You have less problems that way. But if you want to live life the hard way.... be my guest.
