Danielle Mailloux's attorney Mark Raimondo says the 25-year old woman was suffering from post partum depression when she stabbed her new born baby in May 2011.

Court records show the mother was also a meth addict, and was high at the time of the stabbing.

One year ago a judge sentenced Mailloux to an eight-year suspended prison sentence and a one year program for parental counseling and drug rehabilitation.  "She is almost done with the program and is about to be released, to go home to her family, says Raimondo.

"I think it was a wise and brave decision by Judge Brehmer to give her another opportunity. She had no prior record, she was suffering from a severe mental illness, that is treatable and I think her progress so far has shown the judge to be a very wise man," adds Raimondo.

Mailloux will be back in court in March for a status conference hearing.   Post partum depression follows child birth and reportedly affects about 25 percent of new mothers nationwide.

Post partum depression and high on meth is a good reason to let her off with a little rehab? This judge needs to be seen by a doctor!

I agree with you Ginny, I think that they should include not getting pregnant until her probation is over is a terrific idea! She is 0-2 on keeping her children safe. She needs to prove that she has changed her ways before she is allowed to be responsible for any more of her children. A 5 year probation period would allow her to get clean, get support to stay clean, attend classes and get her life back together.

Why no mention of her remaining 5 years of probation that the judge handed down along with the year of treatment she is completing, or did he let the probation go by the wayside? How about also requiring her to not have any more children while she is on probation since she has shown that she cannot stay away from meth and lost one child because of it and almost killed her second child by using meth during her post partum depression. There have been 3 recent cases in the US where judges have required this and it has been found to be legal on appeal. This young lady needs more than a year of treatment to prove herself IMO. We shouldn't be possibly risking another newborn to danger because of her history.
