When Josh Preston asked us to take him to the Kern County Sheriff's Department for questioning he seemed to know that he wouldn't be coming home. "If I am under arrest I'll still go I just need an attorney or something now I'm in it deep in a way I'm not even supposed to be in it's crazy. If I would have known man I wouldn't have taken those kids and volunteered to play all day. We just played I was a big kid."
Preston was arrested after an hour of questioning in the death of two year old Guillermo Alvarez. The coroner says the toddler died of blunt force injury. Gina Serna, boy's mother. "I just want him to pay. The most time he can get in this world for what he did to my baby."
After learning of Preston's arrest Guillermo's mother 27-year-old Gina Serna surrounded herself with family and friends. Preston took care of Guillermo and his four siblings while Serna tried to find a better life for her family. She said Guillermo seemed afraid of Preston but she never thought Preston would hurt him. "In front of me he didn't hurt any of my older kids but that's because they would talk they would tell me...my baby was innocent couldn't talk and I know Josh was very jealous of my baby."
Now prosecutors must prove that jealousy led to murder. Preston remains behind bars charged with Guillermo's murder. "I just God know when he wants his people it was his time God's got my life made out he knows what's gonna happen all I can do is pray...God knows what happened God knows everything."
Guillermo's mother is warning other mothers to make sure they know who is caring for their children. "No matter how much anybody thinks they trust the man or anybody it's not worth it I wish I would have found out a lot earlier because my baby would still be here."
A car wash will be held Friday from 9am to 4pm at the AM/PM Mini Mart on Beale Avenue and Monterey Street. The family is hoping to raise enough money for Guillermo's funeral, which will be held Tuesday at ten a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
