California Best Inn on Wible Road is where federal investigators said a Bakersfield baby was raped by Shawn McCormack in March of 2009. Investigators said McCormack recorded the rape and then distributed the video on the Internet.
Court documents indicate that "the video begins with a nude male who appears to be 11-months-old lying on his back on a bed. The minor's legs are raised, his hands are bound to his legs by electrical tape."
The details are too graphic for the newscast and web story.
"At approximately 3 minutes the adult male covers the minors mouth with his left hand. A muffled crying noise can be heard."
Records revealed McCormack was arrested for child endangerment about seven months after the video was recorded. A police report obtained by 17 News said McCormack was living with close friends in Bakersfield who had a young baby boy.
One night in November 2009, the baby's mother reported her son missing from the home. According to the report, McCormack told police he went to the convenience store and brought the baby along for the ride. The baby's father told police he didn't think McCormack had bad intentions, but he wasn't allowed to take the baby anywhere by himself.
The family field a complaint, police arrested McCormack, but the case was never prosecuted because McCormack fled. The family filed a complaint, police arrested McCormack, but the case was never prosecuted because McCormack fled.
The family later confirmed it was their child in the pornographic video made in the California Best Inn hotel room. When investigators searched McCormack's home, now in Black Forest Colorado, the forensics team discovered 4,000 images and 365 videos of child pornography.
A 17 News affiliate in Colorado Springs went to the home. The woman there was violent towards the news crew, throwing rocks and using profanity. McCormack is in federal custody in Colorado. He will not come back to Kern County for trial, instead he will face a federal judge in Fresno.
McCormack is being charged with sexual exploitation of children.
