Mailbox thieves strike southwest Bakersfield neighborhood

Dozens of mailbox thefts this week in a southwest Bakersfield neighborhood have residents on high alert. They say thieves are stealing their mail to steal their identity.

the problem with a watch is so many renters & they move.So many people both work & are gone all day, we are the only ones home on our blocks & everyone expects us to watch everything then gets mad if you do report anything. You need to look out for yourselves

I think a neighbor hood watch program set up by the police department would be the answer. We had a great on in Texas (ft. worth) and it consisted of 2 hour shifts for two volunteers for safety. The police had a training class to set up the do's and don'ts and they supplied a radio for each team to report any problems found. We have to be pro active, it's our neighbor hood!

One of our family members who lives in Silver Creek, had a wood carving stolen from the front door of their house. It was a large, rather heavy carving. So it's not just mail being taken.

This has happened in SW for years in appletree tract. These are mail boxes on posts. It goes on night & day. We just got a po box years ago. I caUGHT 1 TEEN YEARS AGO & TURNED him in .A postal inspector came out & told us the don't charge teens. Do what you have to do to protect yourselfs

This would be a good reason to set up one mail box on each block with a nerve gas bomb!The police can pick up the bodies the next day!
