A local Marine is on his way back to the United States after being seriously injured by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and his family is asking for your prayers and cards.

Friends say 25-year-old Lance Corporal Joshua Brubaker lost his left leg below the knee in the explosion.

His family got word of the injury on Friday and they're flying to Maryland to meet him in a military hospital there.

He's on his way from a hospital in Germany.

Family friend Carol Jones said Brubaker was home-schooled and active in the 4-H and California Mounted Shooters before joining the service.

He is the son of Bill and Mary Brubaker and has three brothers.

The Marine Corps said information about the attack will have to come from Brubaker himself, but his family hasn't had a chance to speak at length with him so there are few details about what happened to him.

A separate defense department news release describes the death of another Marine from Brubaker's unit in Helmund province last Thursday.

His family asks for prayers, and for get-well cards.

You can send a card to LCpl Josh Brubaker, 2/5 Echo, c/o Operation Pal, P.O. Box 670328, Marietta, GA 30066.
