A 13-year-old girl from Lamont has been selected as the California Police Activities League Young Woman of the Year.
Clara Bruno was chosen from a group of over 200,000 kids.
She's is a member of the Kern County Sheriff's Activities League, and says it was exciting to be honored with the award in Sacramento.
"It's a really good feeling because it's like you feel like you accomplished something,'' she said. ''So it gives you a really good feeling."
Clara performed over 440 hours of community service in 2008. She is in the 8th grade at Mountain View Middle School and is involved in numerous school activities.
And Wednesday KGET TV-17 is teaming up with the Sheriff's Activity League to raise funds for its program and to support kids like Clara.
On Wednesday, you can get a juicy burger and support SAL'S children's programs throughout Kern. It's going across from the Channel 17 studios at 22nd and L streets.
Tthe fundraiser begins at 11 a.m. and rund to 6:30 p.m.
