Oh and Lee you have the right to make a turn when it is allowed to do so;(maybe he should have taking a closer look to see the ' jet" car coming his way) Dean Car was traveling way over 100 miles per hour. How do you figure Turnupseed should have been charged with man slaughter? Dean was clearly on a suicide miision and thank fully didn't take down another with him!

Yes; that would be Donald Turnupseed now out of Tulare. Owns Turnupseed electric. I was friends with his son Donald Jr. Completely James Dean's Fault. Never the less Turnupseed had wrote a book briefing the accident and the feelings of regret it caused him over the years. Good People.

How sad.....if he hadn't pulled him over he probably wouldn't have died that day. But, he was doing his job. I guess you could also say if he wasn't speeding then he wouldn't have been pulled over. Interesting how the little choices we make can lead to huge consequences.

While the story is a nice tribute to James Dean on the 57th anniversary of his death, there are a number of factual oversights in the article. James Dean was ticketed in Kern County on CA Rt. 99(South of Bakersfield) at 3:30 pm by CHP Officer O.V. Hunter, but his fatal accident occurred near Cholame, in San Luis Obispo County (not Kern County). The driver making the left turn in front of Dean's Porsche was Donald Turnupseed (not Turnipseed), who should have been charged with vehicular manslaughter for failing to yield to Dean's right of way. Interesting trivia fact: Officer Hunter misspelled James Dean's middle name, Byron as Bryon. The car was not registered to Warner Bros,as stated in the article, it was in James Dean's name, with Warner Bros. in Burbank listed as his employer. There are other factual errors to minor to mention. Lee Raskin, James Dean historian/author, James Dean At Speed, 2005, (Amazon.com)

Ummm.....how is Cholame south of Kern County? Where is route 466? Might the writer invest in a map and perhaps proof read before posting?.
