Homeless may begin highway litter cleanup next month

If all goes as planned, some local homeless people will start cleaning our freeways full-time next month. April 25th is the tentative start date.

I agree with you workinghard, I think that the thousands of people who receive welfare should have to do some type of community service in order to get their benefits.

kknjtg you're right. The large majority of the trash comes from trash trucks. One reason heading east, the trash ends at Tower Line road. But the trash collectors are profesionals so they are probably exempt from littering laws.

yes homeless should be earning some of thier keep. What's going to happen when 1 of them gets hurt . Sue the city.Mothers going to have kids out there? Let jail birds do it

We have thousands of people on welfare who sit around doing nothing all day. They should make community service (such as picking up the trash)mandatory if they want to receive their welfare money. At least then they would be earning it.

Its funny this will never get blamed on the trash trucks. That is where the trash comes from. You can tell my the strange trash pieces on the highway. Not something that would be thrown from a car. If you have ever been behind one on the highway there's trash spewing out of the trash truck.
