BAKERSFIELD, CA - A former Bakersfield police records clerk is suspected of taking tens of thousands of dollars from an organization that helps at-risk kids and the families of fallen officers.
Records Supervisor Amy Powers quit after the Police Benefit Association's bank account came up 50 thousand dollars short. Powers was the treasurer of the association.
The case has been turned over to the District Attorney's office which is still investigating for possible criminal charges. DA investigators who served a search warrant at Powers' home say she was unable to explain why she used the association's bank card to pay for more than a thousand dollars worth of repairs on her own truck.
Powers was not at home and did not return our calls. The current president of the benefit association declined to comment.
