Thousands of people visit Kern County every year, whether they're driving through or stopping at the legendary Crystal Palace.
There's a sub genre in country music known as the Bakersfield Sound. But, if you keep exploring our city has much more to attract visitors.
Westways is a magazine every AAA member receives.
If you turn to page 30 in the latest edition, you see something that might surprise you in one of its sections. It lists Bakersfield as a quick escape, helping the city bring in tourists and profit.
"I think when someone reads something like this, this great article out here, people get a perspective, a more accurate perspective. This is real America," said Thomas Rockwell, owner of Trouts in Oildale.
The nightclub was featured in the magazine among several other hot spots, for having good entertainment.
The Crystal Palace, like Trouts, was also mentioned.
"I think one of the neatest things about the Crystal Palace is mom and dad, the kids, grandma and grandpa, can get a big table and have a wonderful dinner and see live music at the same time," said Jim Shaw, band leader for The Buckaroos.
"The kids can get out and dance. It's totally unique", he continued.
The article is one of several magazines recommending Bakersfield.
"Just in the two weeks, we had an article in the Los Angeles Times and the Wall Street Journal. So, the more things we can do to put Bakersfield top of mind for others outside of here, will pay huge dividends for us down the road," said Cindy Pollard, President and CEO of the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce.
Pollard said the local economy faces a huge boost when it comes to tourism and the Bakersfield Sound.
