BAKERSFIELD, CA - Anti-gun control activists declared a Day of Resistance, as rallies were held around the United States. Organizers said it's an effort to stand up against gun control and have their voices heard. In Bakersfield, they did just that.

Republican Senator Jean Fuller said, "We need to keep the Second Amendment. It's our amendment. No one should take it away and if you, in Kern County, let them because we know the way they will."

Hundreds of anti-gun control activists gathered in southeast Bakersfield for a day of resistance. Anti-gun control activist Justin Garza said, "They're taking away our rights, it's unconstitutional."

Organizers say the rally is in response to the president signing executive orders on gun control. They say the president is taking away their right to bare arms.

Anti-gun control activist Richard McEnroe said, "It is not a luxury, it is not a gift from the government, it is and always has been a right of every American citizen."

Activists say they have a message for lawmakers.

Garza said, "We're not going to give up our assault weapons and we're not going to give up any weapon, as a matter of fact."

With this rally, they're hoping to get their message all the way to Sacramento, if not Washington D.C., but many people don't agree with that message.

Former war correspondent Terry Phillips said, "No rational person is suggesting that we should gather up all the guns. Even if somebody thought we should do that, I don't know how that would even be possible."

He said there isn't a simple solution to the complicated issue of gun control.

"I wish it were as simple as saying well let's just give everybody a gun. Imagine, in some of these cases, some of the extreme case, if there had been a lot more armed people. My guess is, a lot of innocent people, a lot more innocent people, probably would've been shot," said Phillips.

But anti-gun control activists are pushing toward their goal, unifying Americans behind the Second Amendment. Anti-gun control activist Priscilla Kelly said, "I hope that the politicians are listening, both democratic and republican and hear our voice."

Organizers say about 50,000 people, in more than 30 states, signed up to participate in the Day of Resistance. They say 1,700 people were at the rally in Bakersfield.

fist, I own a AR15 and I cherish my second amendment rights. California already has all the gun "restrictions" that Obama is advocating, so why are you all crying about Obama taking guns away, if you all have already been living these restrictions for years? If these restrictions mean taking taking your guns away, then your guns were taken away a long time ago!!!

I think it would have been good for gun control advocates to attend. They could have learned something about rights and freedom and what it really means to be free. I am sure they were just probably to afraid but I couldn't have felt more safe, than in a crowd of law abiding gun owners.

My husband and I were at the Day of Resistence Rally held on .223. Your story of this event is sorely lacking. We are NOT anti gun control activits. Rather, we are pro Second Amendment patriots. Instead of quoting someone who is obviously anti Second Amendment, why not get quotes from people who attended? We were all willing to give you a quote and we're more than willing to stand up for our constitutionaly guaranteed rights.

First off only the military and police have LEGAL access to "Assault Weapons". Background checks have been in place since the 1960's. We the honest firearms owners understand the fact that it is not the weapon which kills, it is the person holding it loaded who squeezes the trigger who is the killer. A firearm is like any tool, it can be used for good or evil. After all the F.B.I. has stated that more people are killed from blunt force trauma and fire arms. As a lot of us have stated "Gun Control" is all about controlling the people. Read history and you will find out that any government which disarms the people soon becomes tyrannical. It is an armed citizenry which keeps that from happening.

We are not "anti-gun control activists". Please stop referring to us as such. We are civil rights activists. Thank you.

As Hitler stated, the first step to take control of the people is to disarm them! As the old story goes, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, it's not going to happen Obama!

It's not anti gun control, it's Gun Rights Activists. And since not one person was there for Gun control, why waste time quoting pro Gun Control individuals? How does that relate?
