Making pictures with melted crayon

For melted crayon pictures, younger children may need some help from a grown-up, but older kids can probably do this activity without assistance. Waxed paper, brown paper bags, a vegetable peeler, and some old crayons are all you'll need. Use the vegetable peeler to shave different colors of crayons and arrange the pared slices of crayon on a piece of waxed paper. Experiment! Use bits of colored string or yarn or various colors of tissue paper along with the crayon peelings to form a design. When the design is complete, cover it with another sheet of waxed paper. Place the brown paper bags over and under the waxed paper and press with a warm iron. What can be done with these works of art? They make fantastic sun catchers, or the children can create their own greeting cards. Here's an idea-- take an old coat hanger, bend it a little bit and glue the crayon masterpieces on it for a mobile. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
