Blood pressure
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is often called the 'silent killer' because it usually has no symptoms, yet can lead to serious problems like heart attack, stroke, and kidney damage.
Cholesterol
Most of the same foods which are good for weight loss are also good for keeping your cholesterol down. These include low-fat, high-fiber choices like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
Hazardous weight loss
While losing weight is generally beneficial for your health if you're overweight, there are instances when weight loss can be hazardous. Most dangers arise when you try to lose weight too quickly.
Heart attacks
A heart attack occurs when blood is no longer able to reach the heart, usually due to clogged arteries. This lack of blood causes heart muscle tissue to die.
Safe weight loss
In general, safe weight loss means a gradual weight loss of no more than one or two pounds a week. Here are some other features to look for in a safe weight loss plan.
Stress
Increasingly, stress is being viewed as a possible contributor to many illnesses. When under stress, your body releases hormones like cortisol (CORE-tih-zawl) which can increase blood pressure and heart rate and impair short-term memory.
