Your feet, like any other part of your body, are subject to burns when exposed to hot objects or acid. Some over-the-counter corn and callus removers contain an acid which can burn the skin if misapplied. Industrial accidents are another frequent cause of burns. But if you feel a burning sensation on the bottom of your feet or in your toes, the most common cause is Morton's syndrome. It is essentially a pinched nerve and is seven times more common in women than men. This condition is most frequently caused by shoes that are too tight or high heels, although it can also appear following foot injuries for no apparent reason. In most cases, switching to shoes with a wider toe box and using an orthodic device to cushion the area will relieve the condition. Only in extreme cases will surgery to remove the swollen nerve be necessary. If you suffer from burning feet, contact a foot specialist in your area to review your options.
