Mel Gibson's girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva gave birth to a baby daughter called Lucia in Los Angeles on Friday, the actor's representative has confirmed.

Reports suggesting Lucia, who was due in December, had arrived on Friday surfaced over the weekend .

Gibson's spokesperson Alan Nierob says, "Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson welcomed the arrival of a baby girl named Lucia on Friday at an undisclosed hospital in Los Angeles."

Lucia is Gibson's eight child - he has six sons and a daughter with ex-wife Robyn,

Grigorieva, 39, also has a son, Alexander, with her former boyfriend, actor Timothy Dalton.
