Kern County firefighters continue to work to gain control over two separate fires; one in the Tehachapi area, the other in Kernville. Here is the latest information.
The West Fire near Tehachapi:
- More than 1,400 acres have burned.
- 25 structures are destroyed - that number has dropped from early estimates of 30 to 40.
- It's not clear yet how many of those 25 structures were homes.
- The West Fire is 25% contained.
- 150 to 200 homes remain threatened by the flames.
The Bull Fire near Kernville:
- 2,249 firefighters are battling the Bull Fire near Kernville right now.
- 16,074 acres have burned.
- The fire is burning in grass and brush on both sides of the Kern River.
- Eight homes and six outbuildings have been destroyed.
- The blaze is just 12% contained.
- The Bull Fire is believed to be human caused.
A community meeting will be held at the Lake Isabella Senior Center Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Members of the Incident Management Team and Forest personnel will be available to provide an update on the fire, and answer questions from community members.
