A 5-year-old Mansfield, Ohio girl who came home to an empty house decided to try to find her mother.

She climbed behind the wheel of the family SUV, but crashed it before she could go more than a few feet down the street.

The girl then called 911, asking for police to help her with the car.

"My mom's car backed out on accident an I need the police to pull my mom's car back in," Amelia Kegley told the 911 dispatcher. "It's really dark around here...I got off the bus but my mom wasn't here."

Neighbor Shirley Roberts saw the vehicle going backwards down the driveway.

It finally stopped in another neighbor's front yard.

"Cars fly down this road she would have been backing out and a car hit her broadside," Roberts said.

Amelia didn't know her mother was transported by ambulance to the hospital earlier Monday with an unspecified illness.

Her father was asked to pick her up, but did not get the message.

Amelia was not hurt.

Neither parent has been charged with a crime, but the Ohio Children's Services agency continues to investigate.
