The holiday season is in full swing and it's time for our Sunrise recipes.  All week, we'll be showcasing some of our favorite holiday dishes - desserts, appetizers, side dishes, and trying them live on 17 Sunrise.  To kick it off, 17 News anchor Maddie Jansen shares one of her favorite cookie recipes.

This is my recipe for Chocolate Cherry Kiss Cookies.  It's my mom's recipe.

Ingredients:

1 cup shortening

1 cup powdered sugar

1/2 tsp almond extract

2 tsp cherry juice

2 1/4 cups flour

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup chopped cherries

1 bag chocolate kisses

Start with 1 cup shortening, 1 cup powdered sugar, and add in 1/2 tsp almond extract and 2 tsp cherry juice and mix that.

Then sift 2 1/4 cups flour, and 1/2 tsp salt.  Add that to your sugar mixture.

Then chop 1/2 a cup maraschino cherries and add those to the mixture.

Roll into small balls, put in the oven at 350 degrees, and cook for 10 to 12 minutes.

When you pull them out of the oven, press chocolate kisses on top.

again, all week we'll be featuring some of our favorite holiday recipes...
