Kern County Red Cross volunteers are on standby, ready to deploy at any moment, to help in the wake of Sandy.

Thousands of people across nine states took refuge from the superstorm in shelters set up by the Red Cross. So far the organization has deployed 1,300 disaster workers.

Although there are no plans to send volunteers just yet, Jennifer Perfect with our local chapter of the Red Cross says they are always ready to deploy to a disaster, and during hurricane season, they know that possiblity is more imminent.
"Our nurses, mental health, people who can shelter, people who can feed, all of those volunteers that have spent many hours training, they are ready to go."

You can text Red Cross to 90999, to make a $10 donation to the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
